The town is 170 km away from the capital Sofia. The access to the town along the Danube River is through Somovit Port which is 50 km away from Pleven town. At present a project is being developed for providing the possibilities the nearby military airports to be used for civil and transport flights. The population of Pleven district is about 350 thousand as about 150 thousand from them live in the town, thus making it into a well-developed urbanized center. The transport infrastructure in the Municipality is well-developed. The investments in the economy in Pleven for 2009 amounts to 350 million Euros.
